Description
The Bewdley Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel. It dates from the late 17th century, with early 19th century and some late 20th century alterations. The building is made of painted brick and has a tile roof, forming an L-plan with extensions to the southeast and southwest.
The northwest front, which faces the street, has two storeys with an attic that is illuminated by two gabled dormers. It features a dentilled brick cornice and five windows; two on the right are blocked, while the remaining three are 16-pane sash windows. On the ground floor, there are three windows, with the leftmost one blocked. The other two are 20-pane boxed sashes. The entrance, located between these two windows, is approached by three stone steps and has a fluted wooden door case with paterae in the corners, a shallow flat canopy, and a six-panel door. There is also an entrance at the right-hand corner leading to No. 12, which is approached by seven stone steps and has a recessed half-glazed door.
The northeast front features the gable end of the front range on the right, which has a band at each floor and two windows: an 8-pane boxed sash on the left and a 16-pane boxed sash on the right. On the ground floor, there are two glazing bar sashes. The range on the left has two storeys with an attic lit by three gabled dormers, a dentilled brick cornice, and a band at both the ground and first floors, the latter decorated with dog tooth bricks. This section has six windows: two 16-pane boxed sashes and four single-light casements on the right. The ground floor features four windows, including a boxed glazing bar sash on the left, a canted bay window, a boxed glazing bar sash under a segmental head, and a 16-pane boxed sash on the right. The right corner entrance has a wooden architrave with a pediment on scroll brackets and a 20th-century door.
