Description
Brunel Court and The Cobbles is a building that was originally a school, now converted into seven dwellings. It was constructed in 1850 and restored in 1927, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The structure is made of purple brick with yellow brick dressings and features a tiled roof. It has an L-shaped plan, with the former boys' school extending to the south-west and the girls' school extending to the south-east.
The south-west front displays the boys' school on the left, which is a single storey with three stepped lancets that have Gothic revival iron casements. To the right is the girls' school, which has two storeys on the left and one storey on the right. The two-storey section features a gable on the left with two lancets above three lancets. A slightly recessed part has three windows over three. The schoolroom on the right has two sets of three windows flanking a central gable that contains two lancets, above which is a shield inscribed with "Girls' School/ 1850." The entrance is roughly central in the two-storey portion. The return front of the boys' school is almost a mirror image of the girls' school.
