Description

A group of four houses, now three, dating to the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The houses are timber-framed with rendered infill, set on a stone plinth, and have a thatched roof. The four framed bays are aligned north/south; number 40 occupies the two southern bays, followed by numbers 38 and 37, each within a single bay. A gable-end stack is located on the southern end, and a rubble lateral stack is on the west wall. Two storeys are present throughout, except for the right-hand end (number 40), which has an attic lit by a gabled tiled dormer. The left end features four 19th-century casement windows. The ground floor has 2 windows in the southern section, then 2 windows, then 2 more windows, all with assorted 20th-century casements. Entrance doors are located in the south gable (number 40) and the north gable (number 37). Number 38 has a ledged and boarded door located to the right of centre. The timber framing is three panels high, with straight angle braces on one bay and straight tension braces on another.
