Description
This is a house, now divided into four separate dwellings. It was originally built in the early 17th century and extended in the late 17th century, with further alterations in the early 19th century and mid-20th century. The construction is timber-frame with rendered infill on a base of coursed rubble, topped with a machine tile roof. The building is arranged in a U-shape, with a flat front facing the street. The southern range is significantly longer than the shorter two-bay northern range, and there are chimney stacks at each end of the central front range. The house has two storeys and an attic, which is lit by two gabled dormers in the centre and a single casement window in the right-hand gable. There are three windows on the front, all being 3-light casements, with two canted bays on the ground floor and a single 3-light casement window to the right. The entrance to No. 41 is located to the left of the centre and features a ledged and boarded door with plank weathering. A 19th-century brick extension is attached to the left, serving as the entrance to No. 44. The other entrances are at the rear. The timber framing of the left-hand cross wing is three square panels high, featuring straight angle braces. The clasped purlin roof has three struts to the collar. The central range and right-hand cross-wing are four rectangular panels high.
