Description

Nos 52, 53, and 54, known as Old Bell Cottage, are three houses located on Evesham Road. They likely date from the 15th century, with extensions added in the late 17th century and some alterations made in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. The buildings are timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill set on a stone plinth, topped with a machine tile roof.

The layout is T-shaped, with Nos 52 and 53 forming the 17th-century range to the north, and No 54 situated in the 15th-century east/west cross-wing, featuring a main stack at the junction. The east front shows a one-storey range with an attic on the right, illuminated by two gabled dormers. The ground floor has one and two casement windows, with entrances to Nos 52 and 53 positioned near the center, each featuring four flush panel doors; the door to the right is sheltered by a porch with a lean-to tiled roof.

To the left, the cross-wing is gabled and includes a canted oriel window on each floor, adorned with a cusped 19th-century bargeboard at the gable and a 19th-century bell cote (which does not contain a bell) at the center of the roof. The entrance is located on the right-hand wall. The framing of the 15th-century section includes curved angle braces and tension braces, with a truss that has clasped purlins and three struts to the collar. The 17th-century range features three and four rectangular panels high with straight tension braces.
