Description
The building is a former barn located about 47 meters south of Crutch Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure set on a plinth of brick and lias limestone rubble, with weatherboarding and a corrugated iron roof. The barn has four framed bays aligned north to south. The wagon bay, which is the second from the south gable end, includes opposed cart entries and double doors. On the west elevation, there are two doors to the north of the wagon bay and a loft door to the south.
Inside, the barn has a wall-frame consisting of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight upper braces. The gable ends have collar and tie-beam trusses with three struts and a V-strut in the apex. The intermediate tie-beam trusses feature two raking struts, a single tier of trenched purlins, and some swept wind-braces, although all rafters have been removed. This large 17th-century barn occupies a prominent position. Crutch Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
