Description
No. 7 Broad Street is a house located on the corner, built around 1800. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a plain tile roof with brick dogtooth eaves and external brick stacks. The building has a central staircase plan and consists of three storeys and a cellar, with a three-window range.
On the first floor, there are two 8/8 sash windows flanking a central 6/6 sash window, all of which are boxed and have painted channelled voussoirs, keystones, and sills. Above, there are smaller 4/4 sashes flanking a 3/3 sash. The ground floor mirrors this arrangement with similar 8/8 sashes flanking a central doorcase that features a Classical architrave with Doric pilasters and an open pediment, a Gothick-traceried fanlight, a four-panel door, and a stone step. The building has painted plinth courses, with the right side interrupted by a cellar grille. A firemark is also present.
On the left return, the gable verge is raised to the top of the stack, and there is a gabled wing with dentilled eaves. This side includes 6/6 sash windows, two of which have segmental heads, and a part-renewed external end stack, along with further rear extensions.
Inside, the house features a central staircase with stick balusters, moulded doorcases, panelled doors, and a grey marble fireplace. Historically, No. 7 was built together with Nos. 9 and 11 following site clearance in 1809, and the entire structure was operational by 1820.
