Description

Milestone House Hotel is a guest house, likely dating back to the 17th century with alterations made in the mid-18th century. It is constructed of squared limestone with a stone slate roof. The two-storey building has an attic and a string course. On the front, to the left of the entrance door, are two sash windows. The left-hand window has a surround with an edge roll moulding, while the right-hand window sits within a blocked doorway. To the right of the door are two sash windows separated by a flat-faced mullion. The first floor has two windows with plain reveals. Two dormers light the attic. The door has a chamfered surround, sheltered by an early 20th-century open timber porch. The gables are coped, and the chimneys have cyma cornices. Inside, a room on the right-hand side features a chamfered spine beam with run-out stops and a stone inglenook with a bressummer; the rear wall here is timber-framed with light scantling in square panels. Another room on the ground floor has a chamfered spine beam. On the first floor, further light timber-framing is exposed in a rear wall, and the attic rooms have exposed purlins.
