Description
The Stocks is a set of medieval wooden stocks that used to be located in the Market Place. They are now covered by a modern canopy with Cotswold tiles and surrounded by iron railings. The Stocks are part of a group that includes Nos 53 and 54, which incorporate the remains of Abbey Gate, the gate and railings of No 53, the remains of Abbey Stables, the Almonry, and Nos 4 and 5 Abbey Gate. This group also features the remains of the south wall of the Abbey Precinct, Little Abbey Lane, and is associated with the Church of All Saints, the Church of St Lawrence, the Bell Tower, Abbot Reginald's Wall, the Porter's Lodge, the remains of the west wall of the North Transept of the Abbey, the archway to the south of the remains of the west wall of the North Transept of the Abbey, Abbot Reginald's Gateway, the Old Vicarage, the Public Library, Nos 6 and 6A, Nos 7 and 8, and Walker Hall in the Market Place.
