Description
This building is a barn, now used as stables, located about 30 yards west of Dunhampstead Manor. It was probably built in the 18th century and altered in the mid-20th century. The barn is timber-framed and sits on a plinth made of lias limestone rubble, with a weatherboarded exterior and a plain tiled roof. It features three framed bays that are aligned north-east to south-west, with a central wagon bay and cart entries that have been blocked on the south-east elevation. The north-west elevation has central double doors and three rectangular 20th-century windows to the right. Inside, the wall framing consists of long rectangular panels that extend from the sill to the wall plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The roof has collar and tie-beam trusses, with the end trusses featuring two long struts to the collar and raking struts across the lower corners. The intermediate trusses have only the lower raking struts and there are two tiers of trenched purlins. A brick outbuilding that is attached to the north-east gable end is not included in this listing.
