Description
74 High Street is a house dating from the early 19th century, which likely incorporates some work from the 17th century, along with later alterations. The building is primarily constructed of red brick with some yellow bricks arranged in Flemish bond, featuring painted plinth courses and some internal timber-framing. It has a plain tile roof with brick dentilled eaves and a brick end stack on the right side.
The exterior consists of two storeys and a two-window range. The windows on the first floor and the right side of the ground floor are boxed 10/10 sashes, with the ground floor window set under a segmental brick arch. To the left on the ground floor, there is a shallow canted bay window with 10-pane fixed glazing, and a 20th-century half-glazed door to its right, both topped with a leaded cornice.
Inside, there is a square-panel timber-framed internal party wall on the left, a spine beam in the ceiling at the rear, and partly exposed roof timbers above the stairs and on the upper floor, including the principal rafters.
