Description

The Yeoman’s House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and restoration in the mid-20th century. It is timber-framed with rendered infill panels, a sandstone rubble plinth, and a plain tiled roof featuring scalloped bargeboards. The external brick chimneys have diagonal shafts on the left side of the building. The house likely consists of two framed bays, representing a cross-wing of a larger original structure. It has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar. The timber framing is characterized by four square panels from sill to wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners. The tie-beam trusses have two collars and queen struts. The front gable end features a barred metal cellar window, a ledged and battened cellar door, a ground and first floor 4-light casement, and an attic light. A 20th-century single-storey and attic wing adjoins the left side of the house. A two-storey wing, constructed with brick on a sandstone rubble base, is attached to the right side, featuring two first-floor 3-light casements and two ledged and battened doors, all with cambered heads. The interior was not inspected.
