Description
This cow house, located about 50 metres east of Middle Battenhall Farmhouse, dates back to the 17th century with some alterations made in the late 19th century. It features a timber-frame construction set on a stone plinth, with brick infill and some weatherboarding, topped by a tiled roof. The building consists of three framed bays that run north to south and has two storeys. The upper floor has two doors on the left side, while the ground floor has three entries; the left entry is blocked and a 2-light fixed casement window has been inserted. The original framing was designed with six square panels high, although this has been lost on the ground floor. The north gable includes three struts to the collar with V-struts in the apex, and straight angle braces to the tie-beam.
