Description

104 and 104A High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It has origins from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations, including an 18th-century front facade and further changes made in the 1870s and 1960s for the ground-floor shop front. The building features Aesthetic Movement detailing and is constructed of pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, with red sandstone sills and a plain tile roof. The rear has a timber frame with brick nogging.

The building is three storeys high and has three first-floor windows. The ground floor has a plate-glass shop front with a glazed door to the right and a plank door entrance to the left. The first and second floors feature 8/2 sash windows with sills, rubbed brick surrounds, and gauged brick flat arches, which have ovolo-moulded and floral motifs on the keystones; however, the second-floor details are badly eroded. There are panelled 'aprons' above and below the second-floor windows, a dentil cornice, and a low, coped parapet. At the rear, there are square panels of timber framing in the gable end, which have been restored. The ground floor has been renewed, and the interior was not inspected.
