Description

The Farrier's Arms Public House is a building that originally consisted of two houses, now functioning as a public house. The main section on the right dates back to the 16th century, with an upper storey added around 1666 to 1678. There have been later additions and alterations, including infill at the rear from around 1700, 19th-century window changes, and restorations and rebuilding to the left gable end and rear left extension in the late 20th century. The house to the left, adjacent to number 7, is from the late 18th century.

The main range features a timber frame with plaster infill and brick at the rear. It has a pinkish-brown brick stack on the right with a pot. The left range is constructed of brick, rendered on the ground floor, and colourwashed. The roofs are plain tiled. The main range is L-shaped, three storeys high, and jettied at the first floor, with two first-floor windows. The timber framing includes a bressumer beam over the ground floor jetty, remains of close studding on the first floor, and box frames on the second floor. The right return has square panels of framing and a diagonal brace at the first floor.

On the ground floor, there is an off-centre right entrance with a six-panel studded door. To the left is a four-over-eight sash window, and to the right is a three-over-six sash window. There is a chamfered bressumer beam with ovolo moulding, which has been renewed on the left. The first floor has two shallow-bay casement windows on shaped sills with brackets and a continuous hood. The second floor has two similar windows with sills and hoods. A wooden eaves band is present, and the right return has four renewed eight-over-eight sashes.

The left range is two storeys high with two first-floor windows. The entrance features a six-panel door on the left, with a four-over-eight sash window to the right, topped with a relieving arch. The first floor has two three-over-six horned sashes and a modillion eaves band.

Inside, the right part retains chamfered beams at the rear and exposed rafters. There is a corner fireplace at the rear right with a renewed chimneypiece. The upper floors have not been inspected. The Farrier's Arms forms a group with numbers 3, 5, and 7 Fish Street, as well as numbers 21 and 23 Fish Street. It now incorporates number 7, and the timber-framed houses, numbers 9 and 21, frame the view of Worcester Cathedral from Fish Street.
