Description

The War Memorial located on Lichfield Avenue in Ronkswood is a First World War memorial dating from around 1919, which was moved to its current position around 1969. It is made of stone and features a cross with a figure of Christ attached to it, topped by a small moulded gable. The memorial stands on a three-stepped base, and the plinth is inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO/ FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1949 - 1919/ (NAMES)/ IS IT NOTHING TO YOU ALL YE THAT PASS BY BEHOLD/ AND SEE IF THERE BE ANY SORROW LIKE UNTO MY SORROW".
