Description
Nos. 19, 21, and 23 Bath Road are a group of three buildings, probably dating to around 1800-1820, with later additions and alterations, including bay windows added in the mid-19th century. The two houses at numbers 19 and 21 were originally designed as a single build, with separate entrances at each end, while number 23 has a central entrance.
The buildings are constructed of pinkish-brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stone sills. They have hipped slate roofs and brick stacks at the front and rear of the two left-hand houses, and end stacks to the right-hand house, all featuring oversailing courses and decorative pots.
Numbers 19 and 21 are three storeys high with two windows to the first floor, while number 23 is two storeys high with three windows. The windows of numbers 19 and 21 have 8/8 sashes on the ground and first floors, and 4/4 sashes on the second floor, all set within plain reveals, flat arches of gauged brick, and sills. The entrances have renewed steps leading to original five-panel doors; the lower two panels are flush-beaded, and the upper panels are raised and fielded, both with fanlights featuring radial glazing bars within panelled reveals and tooled architraves. A 6/6 sash window is found on the left return to Green Hill. The rear elevation retains 8/8 and 4/4 sashes in flush frames with cambered arches. Number 23 has a central 6/6 sash with outer 8/8 sashes on the first floor, and canted bays with 1/1 horned sashes with margin-lights on the ground floor, along with a decorative frieze. The central entrance has an ornate five-panel door, with flush-beaded panels and a circular panel between, a fanlight with petal-type glazing bars, and panelled reveals with a tooled architrave featuring lion masks. A plain eaves band runs along the top.
The interior has not been inspected.
A boundary wall, approximately 8 metres long and 2 metres high, runs along the left return to number 19, featuring a pedestrian entrance with a cambered arch. Nos. 11-23 (odd) and Nos. 6, 10, 16, and 18 Bath Road form a group, as do Nos. 117 and 119 Sidbury.
