Description
Newlands Cottage is a house dating from the mid- to late 17th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century and mid-20th century. It is timber-framed with some painted brick infill set on a tall brick plinth, topped with a plain tiled half-hipped roof. The building consists of two framed bays aligned north to south and features a large external chimney with tiled offsets at the south gable end. It has two storeys, with the framing displaying three panels from the sill to the wall-plate and long straight braces across the lower corners at the north gable end. The truncated collar and tie-beam trusses have three struts at the gable ends.
On the west front elevation, the ground floor includes a two-light and a single-light casement window, while the first floor has two 2-light casements and a square light. The central entrance features a 20th-century part-glazed door. The interior framing is noted to be largely intact. Additionally, there is a large 19th-century two-storey addition at the rear, which has the main entrance located in its south gable end.
