Description
Kyre Garden and gardener's cottage, located about 100 yards south-west of Kyre Park, is a walled garden and gardener's house dating from the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The structure is built of handmade brick, featuring brick copings, and the wall surrounding the garden is approximately 12 feet high, enclosing an area measuring about 120 by 50 yards. Brick pilaster buttresses are placed at intervals of about 12 yards, and there are gateways with cambered heads located at the center of the north and south walls, along with an additional entrance to the north-east.
The gardener's cottage is positioned in the north-west corner of the garden. It is constructed of brick and topped with a plain tiled roof that has gable-end parapets. The north side of the ridge features two brick stacks. The cottage has a two-bay rectangular plan and stands two storeys tall, with a dentilled eaves cornice. The main elevation on the east end includes a half-glazed door and a 12-pane sash window on the first floor, both of which have cambered heads. A mid-20th century wing extends to the south, featuring a ground floor 2-light casement with a cambered head, a first floor 12-pane sash, and beneath the same cambered head on the ground floor, a single-light casement and a half-glazed door.
