Description

This is a house with an attached wall located next to Windhill Farmhouse to the east. It dates from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. The structure is timber-framed with brick infill and replacement walling, and it features weatherboarding on the north gable end. The roof is plain tiled. The house consists of two framed bays that run north to south, with an external brick chimney on the east side. It has two storeys, and the framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, collar and tie-beam trusses with three struts, and a V-strut in the apex at the north gable end. The south end truss has been partly replaced with brick.

On the east side elevation, there are three ground floor 2-light casement windows, and there is an attic light in the south gable end that is partly blocked. A 19th-century addition is attached to the west side elevation; this single-storey section has a dentilled eaves cornice and consists of two bays, featuring two stable doors on the south elevation and two 2-light casements with cambered heads on the north elevation.

The house is connected to Windhill Farmhouse by a brick wall topped with sandstone coping. This wall is about 10 yards long and eight feet high, and it includes a door and an archway with cambered heads. The house and wall are situated in a prominent position in front of the farmhouse, especially when viewed from the main eastern approach.
