Description
Byeways and Lavender Cottage are two houses dating from the 17th century. They feature timber-framing with brick infill and a tile roof, framed in square panels. The main range consists of one storey with an attic and three bays, accompanied by two adjacent one-bay cross-wings on the right. The main range has timber mullioned windows with three lights and a transom, fitted with iron casements and rectangular lead glazing. There are three dormers in the attic.
The left-hand gabled wing has a truss with vertical struts between the tie-beam and collar, along with a doorway to the right beneath an open porch. The right-hand wing is possibly older and has a less regular frame. On the first floor, it features two curved tension braces and jowled principal posts. This truss also includes a tie-beam, collar, and vertical struts. There are chimneys located on the left side of the rear wall and on the right. Further to the right, there are late 19th or 20th-century additions with false timber-framing.
