Description

MADRESFIELD CP - SO 84 NW 6/64 Byeways and Lavender Cottage - II

Two houses. C17. Timber-framing with brick infill and tile roof. Framed in square panels. Comprises a main range of one storey with attic and three bays, with two adjacent one-bay cross-wings at the right. The main range has timber mullioned windows of three lights with transom with iron casements which have rectangular lead glazing. Three attic dormers. The left-hand gabled wing has a truss with vertical struts between tie-beam and collar, and a doorway to the right under an open porch. The right-hand wing is possibly earlier and is framed less regularly. On the first floor it has two curved tension braces and jowled principal posts. The truss has a tie-beam, collar, and vertical struts. Chimneys at left, on rear wall, and at right. Further right are late C19 or C20 additions with false timber-framing.
