Description
The Callow End War Memorial is a First World War memorial that includes later additions for the Second World War. It is made of Portland stone and is located in a prominent roadside position next to the Callow End Club, within a small garden that is hedged and railed.
The memorial features a hooded Botonee cross atop a gently tapering octagonal shaft, which is set on a two-tier square plinth with a single-stepped base. The main inscription, carved and painted in black on the upper tier of the plinth, reads: "TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE WHO/ FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918/ (19 NAMES)." On the lower tier of the plinth, there is an additional inscription that states: "ALSO OF THE MEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE 1939 – 45 WAR/ (5 NAMES)."
