Description
The Hazelbury Bryan War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1921, with a later addition for the Second World War. It is prominently located at a road junction and is made from Portland stone. The memorial features a small Latin cross on a tapering octagonal shaft, which stands on a square plinth and a three-stepped octagonal base.
The main inscription is on the front (north) panel of the plinth, which reads: "IN/ GRATEFUL MEMORY/ TO THOSE OF/ HAZELBURY BRYAN/ WHO GAVE/ THEIR LIVES FOR/ KING AND COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918." The opposite panel includes the inscription: "THE CARE OF THEM/ IS WITH THE MOST HIGH/ 1939-1945/ (NAMES)/ AND SUBSEQUENTLY/ (NAME)." The other two sides of the plinth are inscribed with the names of those who fell in the First World War.
The memorial is enclosed by painted metal railings and a metal gate.
