Description
Wormegay War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, with additions for the Second World War. It features a Latin cross made of Portland stone, set on an octagonal shaft with a "crown" moulded collar. This is placed on a small square plinth with a circular-moulded cap, which sits on a three-stepped base. The memorial is located on the village green next to the remains of a medieval village cross on Castle Road, Wormegay, Norfolk, and is prominently positioned in the center of the village. The plinth has inscriptions for the First World War in incised and filled lettering, while a separate slab on the steps of the base bears the dedication for the Second World War. The memorial is enclosed by a square boundary formed by metal corner posts linked with three rows of chains. The inscription reads: "THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED/ IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918// (NAMES)// (NAMES)// THEIR NAME/ LIVETH/ FOR EVERMORE.// ALSO/ 1939 – 1945/ (NAME)."
