Description

The property comprises two attached houses, Mitre Farm Cottage and Oak Cottage, dating back to the 17th century. They are constructed of carstone with a pantile roof, forming an L-shaped layout, with Mitre Farm Cottage on the right and Oak Cottage extending to the rear on the left.

Mitre Farm Cottage is a long, single-cell dwelling, with chimney bays at each end and 1½ storeys raised from a single storey. It has large internal stacks at each end. The ground floor features a doorway with a gabled wooden porch on the right, a double-casement window with glazing bars to the left, small openings on either side of the doorway, and a blocked opening in the left chimney bay. Inside, the cottage has a large single cell, tie beams, and large fireplaces at each end. The fireplace on the right has a moulded bressumer, a stone bench, and a niche to the right. A staircase originally located behind the stack has been removed and a new staircase has been inserted in the centre of the cell.

Oak Cottage, attached to the left, consists of a single cell with a further cell to the rear. It is constructed of carstone with brick dressings, with a hipped roof covered in renewed tiles. It has renewed double-casement windows to both ground and first floors. The eastern return side features two recessed sash windows with glazing bars, and a front door to the left. A very large external stack is situated on the rear gable. The interior of Oak Cottage features a large fireplace and massive tie beams with decorative run-out stops.
