Description
The North Runcton War Memorial is a limestone structure located in the churchyard of the Church of All Saints, which is a Grade I-listed building. The memorial features a bottonée cross-head atop a tall, octagonal shaft. This cross shaft rises from an octagonal pedestal that sits on a four-stepped base. The top step is square in shape, while the three lower steps are octagonal, with chamfered corners.
The pedestal is inscribed with incised and painted lettering. The main dedication on the front face of the pedestal reads: "IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918." The names of those commemorated are listed on the other faces of the pedestal, along with each individual’s regiment.
Additionally, a small rectangular plaque is affixed to the second step of the base, inscribed with "1939 – 1945 (3 NAMES)."
