Description

A pair of lodges dating from the early to mid-19th century, serving as entrances to Stanbrook Abbey. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings and have slate roofs. Each lodge is based on a semi-octagonal plan, with extensions to the rear. They are two storeys high, with quoined angles to each side of the single bay. The windows have stone surrounds, transoms, and mullions that branch into Y-tracery beneath Tudor-arched heads. Blank stone tablets are positioned below the first-floor windows. The eastern lodge has late-19th century timber bay windows on two sides facing southeast. The doorways both face the drive. Two octagonal brick gatepiers topped with stone urns stand between the lodges, linked by a brick wall. Pedestrian gateways, with arches designed as flying buttresses, are located between the gatepiers and the lodges.
