Description

This house, located about 80 yards south-west of Westwood Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century and has been altered in the mid-19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with brick and rendered infill, set on a sandstone rubble plinth, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building consists of three framed bays that run north to south. It has a large external rubble chimney with a bread oven and a demolished stack at the north gable end, as well as the remains of an external brick stack at the south gable end.

The house is two storeys high, with its framing consisting of three rows of panels from the sill to the wall-plate, long straight braces in the lower corners, and collar and tie-beam trusses that include two struts to the collar, a V-strut in the apex at the south gable end, and a single strut to the apex at the north gable end.

On the main west elevation, the ground floor features a 2-light casement window, a square light, and a square opening where a window is missing. There is a 3-light window on the first floor and a ledged and battened door to the left. An attic light is present in the south gable end. The interior retains its original framing, and there is a 19th-century range and bread oven in the fireplace at the south end. Westwood Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
