Description

The monument to the Strickland family is a chest tomb located about 3 metres south-west of the porch of the Church of St Kenelm in Clifton upon Teme. It commemorates James Strickland, who died in 1819, and is signed by W Milton. The tomb is made of ashlar and features a hipped ridge top. It has bold corner balusters with decorative paterae above at the corners of a fluted frieze, and fluted quadrants at the corners of the side panels and inscription panels. The south face is inscribed with an oval tablet that reads: "Sacred to the memory of Mr James Strickland he departed this life 19th Feby 1819 in the 72nd year of his age." There are also inscriptions on the other three faces of the tomb.
