Description

A mid-18th century walled garden with an adjoining gardener’s house, located approximately 150 yards southwest of Hanley Court. The garden is enclosed by red brick walls, roughly 10 feet high, surrounding a roughly rectangular area of about 900 square yards. The south wall is straight, while the remaining walls curve. The east wall incorporates a wide, shaped false gable masking the gardener’s house. The gardener’s house itself has brick walls on a sandstone rubble base and a partly hipped, plain-tiled roof. The garden-facing elevation features a central 20th-century glazed door flanked by round-arched windows. A lunette is positioned above the doorway at the base of the shaped gable. A 20th-century glazed lean-to addition is attached to the left and central portions of the ground floor. The main entrance to the gardener’s house is on the south side.
