Description
The Fox Inn is a house that has been converted into a public house. It dates back to the 17th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is timber-framed with rendered infill, brick refacing, and some replacement walling, featuring tile-hanging and roughcast on the west gable end. It has a plain tiled roof and consists of three framed bays aligned east to west. There is a large external rubble chimney at the west gable end topped with a tall 19th-century brick stack, and a similar chimney at the east gable end, which is enclosed by a 19th-century cross-wing.
The building has two storeys, an attic with dormers, and a cellar. The framing includes four rows of panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with no visible trusses. The north front elevation displays a regular arrangement of two ground floor windows and three first floor windows, all of which are three-light casements. There are three gabled dormers featuring two-light casements. A central 20th-century lean-to porch is partly glazed, with a half-glazed door. The left gable end of the 19th-century cross-wing has a two-light casement on both the ground and first floors, along with a loophole in the gable apex. Inside, the timber-frame appears to be mainly intact, and it is said that the original collar and tie-beam roof trusses survive.
