Description

The walled garden and adjoining wall, located about 200 yards west of Hanbury Hall, date from the late 18th century. Constructed of brick in English garden wall bond, the structure features sandstone ashlar dressings and copings. The wall stands approximately 10 feet high and encloses a space of around 7,200 square yards. The entrance at the center of the west side has a semi-circular headed archway, flanked by pilasters and topped with a raised pediment. There is a smaller entrance in the east wall with brick piers that have small ball finials.

The adjoining wall to the north-east varies in height from about 4 feet to 10 feet and extends north-west for approximately 30 yards before returning south-east for about 2 yards. The first 20 yards of this wall are lower and flanked by square piers with pyramidal capping, with a small gateway at the center also flanked by square piers. This wall was part of an additional walled garden, of which only one other section of walling remains. Both gardens still feature their orcharding and are included as part of the garden layout of Hanbury Hall.
