Description

Summerhill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the late 19th century. The building features a combination of timber framing with brick infill and brick construction, topped with plain tiled roofs. It has a T-plan layout, with the main section oriented roughly north to south and a central bay that projects to the east, featuring a large chimney. The 19th-century modifications include a refronting of the house and a parallel range that has two chimneys at the junction with the older part of the building.

The farmhouse is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar, and it showcases a dentilled eaves cornice. The framing consists of five panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces across the lower corners of the first floor. It has collar and tie-beam trusses, with two collars, three struts to the lower collar, and two to the upper collar.

The front elevation facing southwest has three bays, with all windows featuring cambered heads. The outer bays contain three-light casements, while the central first-floor window is a two-light casement. The central entrance is distinguished by a moulded architrave, a flat canopy, a six-panelled door, and a transom light with two glazing bars.

The interior has not been inspected. A late 19th-century addition is located at the rear northeast of the older part of the farmhouse.
