Description
This building is an outbuilding, likely a former cider mill and hop store, located at the rear northwest corner of Charlton House Farmhouse. It probably dates from the 17th century but was altered in the 19th century, which included the addition of a 19th-century hop kiln at the northeast gable and an outshut on the northwest elevation. The structure is partly timber-framed with wattle-and-daub and brick infill, and partly built of brick, topped with a tiled roof. It has a four-bay plan and is a single storey with an attic.
The southeast elevation, which faces the garden, features three ground floor casement windows, a gabled dormer with a casement window, and a planked timber door. The southwest gable end includes a door with a cambered head, two small loft doors, and double doors with a cambered head leading to the outshut. Inside, there is a 19th-century roof supported by three raking strut trusses, with doorways at both levels leading into the hop kiln. The hop kiln itself is constructed of brick and has a slate roof on a square base. This building is included for its group value with the farmhouse.
