Description

Lock number 29 on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal was built in 1805 and has undergone some repairs in the late 19th century and mid-20th century. It features a rectangular chamber with stone copings, although some of these have been repaired with brick and concrete. At the upper end, there is a single gate, while the lower end has a pair of gates. The mouth of the lock is made of blue brick with brick copings and includes steps on the north side. The lock number is incised in a stone block set into the mouth wall, and there are 19th-century brick treads for opening the upper lock gate. This lock is part of the Tardebigge Flight, which is the longest in England, and is included for its group value.
