Description

This is a churchyard cross located about 25 yards south of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Belbroughton. It is likely from the 15th century and was restored in the early 20th century. The cross is made of sandstone ashlar and features a three-stepped square medieval base with a square plinth that has chamfered upper corners, creating an octagonal upper face. The shaft is hexagonal and has a tabernacle head, which is characteristic of early 20th-century design. On the west side of the base, there is an inscription that reads: "THIS ANCIENT/ CROSS IS RESTORED/ IN LOVING MEMORY/ OF' ? SIR EDWARD/ ? WOODGATE KC MC/ WHO FELL AT SPION/ JAN 24 1900."
