Description

The garden wall and adjoining pavilions, located to the north and east of Church House, date from the mid-18th century, with alterations around 1800 and in the mid-19th century. Constructed of brick, the structure features some sandstone copings and dressings on a sandstone base. The wall stands approximately 6 feet high and connects to the south-west corner of Church House, extending south for about 10 yards, where it includes a pointed archway, before turning east for about 40 yards. At the center of the southern section, there is a gabled gateway featuring a pointed outer arch and a square-headed inner archway with a moulded architrave. The wall then continues north for another 40 yards, where the eastern section has a central pointed doorway with sandstone jambs. It extends east for an additional 20 yards. Each corner of the main eastern section, where the sandstone archway is located, features square pavilions topped with pyramidal plain tile roofs. These pavilions have doorways with cambered heads facing west and 2-light pointed windows that face each other. A brick stack is present on the north side of the roof of the north pavilion. The wall serves to partly separate the garden of Church House from the adjacent churchyard of the Church of the Holy Trinity. This structure is a notable feature on the southern approach into Belbroughton and is included for its group value.
