Description
1, 3, and 5 Church Street is a house that has been converted into three shops. It likely dates from the early to mid-18th century. The building is constructed of brick, with No. 1 being painted and No. 5 plastered, topped with a tile roof and a brick chimney stack. It has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. The ground floor features segmental-headed windows with casements, although the window at No. 5 is blocked. The first floor has small casemented windows, and No. 1 has a 20th-century casement. The entrances are segmental-headed and have 20th-century doors. There is an axial stack located behind the ridge of No. 3. The rear of the building has a two-storey extension from the 20th century. Inside, there are chamfered beams, and No. 3 has an exposed timber-framed cross wall to the right, stop-chamfered beams, and a large fireplace with a bressummer and a 19th-century grate to the left.
