Description
This building is a barn located approximately 20 metres north of Old Hall Farmhouse, likely dating from the mid-19th century, around 1800, with remnants of a timber frame that probably dates back to the 17th century. The structure is built of brick and has a tile roof. The right-hand section of the south wall is older and constructed in Flemish bond, featuring four irregularly spaced windows, a door on the left, a pitching hole under the eaves, and several blocked openings. The left-hand section is made in English bond and has two windows, one of which is in a blocked doorway. On the north side, some worn timber framing is visible on the left, with widely spaced studs above a rail and only the principal posts remaining below.
Inside, the barn has been significantly altered, but the ground floor ceiling appears to have been raised, showcasing chamfered main beams with the rail cogged for joists at a lower level. The upper floor is not fully accessible but seems to consist of seven bays, featuring straight wind braces. One formerly closed truss has a series of vertical struts below the collar, while other visible trusses display both straight and raking struts.
