Description

The bandstand in Lightwoods Park, built in 1903 by the Lion Foundry Company of Kirkintilloch, is a Grade II listed structure. It is model number 23 from the foundry's catalogue, reflecting a late-19th century design. The bandstand features a cast iron structure set on a brick base, topped with a sheet iron roof and has an octagonal plan. The columns are adorned with pedestals and foliated capitals, connected by original low railings on four sides. Shallow elliptical arches spring from the capitals, complemented by openwork decoration beneath the oversailing eaves. The roof is designed as a facetted ogee dome, complete with a decorative crown and weather-vane. Below the dome, there is a timber soundboard. The columns bear the inscription: 'LION FOUNDRY CO KIRKINTILLOCH'.
