Description
The bandstand, built in 1922 by the Lion Foundry Company of Kirkintilloch, is a Grade II listed structure. It is model number 23 from the foundry's catalogue, reflecting a late 19th-century design. The bandstand features a copper roof supported by cast iron columns and a brick base. It has an octagonal canopy with columns positioned at each corner. The base is adorned with ashlar dressings, and elaborate pierced cast iron arches connect the enriched columns, which are topped with crocket capitals. The eaves brackets are similarly pierced. The roof is shaped like an ogee dome and is topped with a decorative crown and weather-vane. Below the dome, there is a timber soundboard. The railings surrounding the bandstand are not original.
Historically, this bandstand replaced an earlier square bandstand, likely made of wood, that was located nearby and marked on the 1:2,500 OS map surveyed in 1917.
