Description

This bus shelter, located directly opposite the Town Hall, was originally a tram shelter and dates from the late 19th century or early 20th century. It features a cast iron structure with a glazed canopy supported by four columns. The long canopy has semi-circular ends, and intermediate columns hold a timber and glass screen that runs along the length of the shelter. The main columns are adorned with moulded braces, crocket capitals, and naturalistic decorations on the pierced spandrels that support the canopy. The intermediate posts are topped with ball finials, and the roof is decorated with elaborate cast iron finials.
