Description
The Canal Warehouse, now used as offices, was built in 1828, as indicated by the date stone in the gable. It is constructed of English garden wall bond brick with stone dressings and a slate roof. The building features five bays across the front and three storeys at the rear, with a three-storey loading bay at the back that has been glazed and includes a round canopy and winch. Each floor has four windows with round brick arches, 20th-century casements, and stone sills. The eaves have shaped gutter brackets, and the gables are coped with small corner piers. The canal-facing elevation also has three storeys, a similar loading bay, and a total of six windows as described. The loading bay at the front has been bricked in and has four windows on either side. Inside, there are timber beam floors supported by cast iron columns. This warehouse is one of the few remaining canal warehouses in Hyde.
