Description
This cruckframe building was formerly part of Newton Hall and is likely from the 16th century, having been restored in 1970. It features a cruck-framed structure with timber-framed side walls, a rendered rear, and a thatched roof. Only the hall remains, which is open to the roof. The building has heavily restored square-panel framing set on a stone plinth, with each of the ten studs featuring diagonal bracing. There are three windows with timber diamond mullions and a projecting section of patent glazing, behind which the panels have been removed to reveal the frame. The left gable shows the cruck frame, while there is a rendered stack on the right gable. The structure includes three pairs of crucks, one of which is located in the gable. The two central frames have double cruck spurs, curved wind bracing, and collar ties, with one collar tie having been removed and renewed in the other frame. A smoke hood is located on the right side.
