Description

This is a 17th-century agricultural building, now used as a workshop and store, located approximately 50 metres west of Oak House in West Bromwich. The structure is timber-framed with brick infill and consists of a south range and a north wing that extends at a right angle, both appearing to be built in the same style. The east gable wall of the south range features exposed framing in square panels, tension braces, and a truss with a tie-beam, two collars, and side purlins. The principal posts have redundant mortices, indicating that this range once extended further east, a change that occurred before the adjacent barn was constructed. The east wall of the rear wing has had some stud-work removed and includes two wide modern workshop doors. The west wall of the front range and the north wall of the rear wing both contain tie-beam trusses with two collars and V-struts above the upper collar. The interior of the front range is open to the roof and consists of two bays, featuring an open truss with raking struts and one remaining straight brace from the tie-beam to a principal post. The wind-braces inside are slightly curved. The interior of the rear wing was not accessible during the survey.
