Description
The Cottage, dating from around 1500, features exposed timber framework with plaster infilling, modern brickwork on the ground floor, and an old tiled roof topped with panelled 17th-century red brick chimney stacks. This two-storey building has an upper floor that overhangs, showcasing a plaster core and two double light casement windows set in moulded wood frames.
On the ground floor, there is an early 19th-century shop window and a three-light casement window, along with a carved corner post that has cusped panels supported by curved brackets. The door is set in a reveal beneath a modern hood mould, adorned with carved foliated spandrels. The side elevation features a gable with cusped bargeboards and a four-light casement window with moulded wooden mullions and traceried heads, along with a wooden transom; the four lower lights are now blocked. Below, a four-centred arch is situated beneath a square hood mould, which has enriched spandrels and a foliated carved frieze.
The Cottage is part of a group that includes St Mary's Hall and Nos 22 and 23.
