Description
Draper's Hall is a distinguished early 19th century Neoclassical building designed by architects T Rickman and H W Hutchinson. Constructed in 1832, with an east wing added in 1864, the building features an ashlar front with a low projecting bay that includes three sash windows and a portico in antis supported by Ionic columns. The main block is one storey tall and has an ashlar front adorned with four wreaths on the frieze, a cornice, and a parapet that displays a central shield and supporters.
Inside, Draper's Hall boasts a fine array of original features, such as decorative plaster ceilings, ornate doorways with consoles, a fluted cornice, chimneypieces embellished with an anthemion motif, and a top-lit ballroom featuring Doric pilasters and an elaborate overmantel. It is regarded as the most interesting building of its period in the City.
