Description

This is a row of four stucco-faced houses, numbers 43 to 46, built around 1830-35. They are part of Lee Crescent in Edgbaston, a Regency-style crescent that includes numbers 41 to 49. The houses are arranged in pairs, each with two bays. They have a plinth, a sill band on the first floor, and a shallow bed mould beneath the bracketed eaves. The slate roofs are punctuated by tall stucco chimney stacks on the party walls. The ground floors show traces of grooved coursing. Doric pilasters flank the first-floor windows, with a wider window centrally positioned on the ground floor, flanked by incised panels. These windows are revealed, glazing bar sashes set within segmental arched panels. Number 46 has a mid-19th century canted bay. The paired, arched entrance recesses each contain an inner arch framed by fluted Tuscan columns. The doors are made of five fielded panels, within panelled reveals, above a fanlight with a looped radial pattern. Arched, tunnel passage entrances are located in the centre of the row and at each end.
