Description
No. 12 Carpenter Road is a compact two-storey villa built around 1835, constructed of coursed stucco and displaying some architectural pretension, particularly in relation to Nos. 13 and 14. The villa features a three-bay front with a plinth and a bed mould at the frieze of a moulded cornice. It has a high parapet adorned with panels that contain a large anthemion palmette motif over the outer bays, while the central panel is raised and styled as a pediment. This parapet conceals the attic, which is lit from the side. The building has pairs of chimney stacks at the gable ends, connected by sections of parapet. All windows are round-headed and set within architrave surrounds, with large paned casement lights. There is an Ionic column porch with a deep entablature, featuring modern glazing on the sides. To the right, there are set-back two-storey service wings, partially screened by a link wall to a coach house with a pediment gable.
