Description
No. 13 Carpenter Road is a detached two-storey villa built around 1835, designed in a stucco style with some architectural significance, and includes a coach home wing. The front of the building features three bays, with the central bay slightly projecting. It is supported by giant quoin pilasters that hold up the main entablature. There is a plinth and a first-floor sill course on the outer bays. A high parapet with a crowning cornice conceals the attic, with the central bay raised and flanked by incised panels, each containing six portholes. The parapet connects pairs of stucco corniced chimneys with ornamental pots on the gable ends. The windows are glazing bar sash types set in eared architraves, with entablatures and blocking courses above those on the ground floor. The central porch features Ionic columns on panelled plinths, a deep entablature, and a blocking course. The entrance is recessed, with panelled reveals, a soffit, and a door, along with a rectangular fanlight. There is an original screen wall linking to the coach home, which has a segmental arch that was altered around 1850 when the coach home was heightened, featuring two blind windows and a small arched light in the pediment gable.
